Cast Bullet: Why Is It So Popular?
Monday, 16 January 2012
Bullets existed in the history of men far earlier than firearms. They used to be stones or metallic objects that is projected from a sling and is used for hunting. Today, various types of bullets are available. A cast bullet is made by melting metal and allowing it to solidify in a mold. Most of these bullets are made of lead alloyed with tin and antimony. Zinc is also used during the scarcity of lead and is continued to be used because lead has been discovered to be highly toxic. Though swaging is preferred by manufacturers, cast bullets are still popular with hand loaders.
Cast bullets remain popular especially with people who are using older firearms. Firearms were used to be sold with bullet moulds. This is done because people who live in remote areas are usually the people who hunt and use their firearms more often. If they have their moulds with them, they can make their own zinc or lead bullets as needed and would not rely on supplies from gun stores that usually ran out. And the custom fit of the bullets made out of this moulds gives superb accuracy. A specific bullet mould to match a specific firearm makes for maximum performance. Once you have the mould, it is easy to manufacture your own cast bullets using basic kitchen tools like milk pans and stove. However, careful attention is also required so you will not burn yourself. And since you are using kitchen tool, it is also important to cautious and not to contaminate food items.
